Mission Statement
The mission of the YAI Network is to create hope and opportunity for people with developmental and learning disabilities and their families.child in classrooms. We believe that every person, at every age and level of ability, has the potential for growth. We also believe that each individual is entitled to the same dignity, respect and opportunities as all other members of society.To that end, we provide one of the nation’s most comprehensive networks of programs and services to assist people with disabilities in maximizing their potential. We pledge to maintain the highest level of excellence and sensitivity in all that we do. The YAI/NIPD Network is committed to the pursuit of excellence.
Project Abstract
At YAI Tarrytown we work with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is our mission with our Computer Creations program to help these individuals learn a variety of applications with computers. This would include at the very basic level, learning how to type. From there, our individuals can be taught how to navigate the internet, create email addresses, and research topics of interest. We hope that they can also learn skills on how to create and publish documents, such as flyers, greetings cards, and letters if they so choose.
Target Population
The donations will benefit adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in a day habilitation setting. Since our classes rotate in the building, it is likely that the computers could be used by up to 50 individuals on any given day.
