Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

  • Mission Statement

Vista Center empowers individuals who are blind and visually impaired to embrace life to the fullest. Founded in 1936 by interested and inspired citizens of Palo Alto as the Palo Alto Society for the Blind, the Society was incorporated in 1945; in the 1970s the name was changed to Peninsula Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Today we are Vista Center, the premier resource for individuals with vision loss in San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. Serving more than 2,600 clients and families each year, Vista Center helps clients reach their highest potential through programs that promote independence and improve quality of life.n

  • Project Abstract

The purpose of this request is to help Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired teachers and staff maintain or improve their level of service to the blind and visually impaired who have requested services in our local area.
We have a need for a dual core desktop and laptop for our teaching staff.
We currently have a need for 4 classroom LCD monitors for visually impaired or blind clients. The existing monitors are large CRTs that leave very little space on the desktop.
We are also now in need of a color laser printer as ours has just failed and has been deemed to be unrepairable by a printer repair person.

  • Target Population

Ages 4 to 104 (as an example of the clients of one of our mobility teachers). Some of the teachers are sighted and some are not. The teachers and students will benefit directly from these donations.
