Susan B. Anthony Center, Inc.

  • Mission Statement

The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center (SBA) provides residential treatment and supportive services to mothers suffering from substance addiction, and mental health issues while allowing them to remain with their children. Our mission is to transform families by providing help, hope, and healing for mothers and their children to live responsible drug-free lives. SBA services include residential treatment, adult and child mental health counseling, developmental intervention, nursing, educational/vocational programs, job coaching, childcare, and continuing care services. Our program is designed to remove barriers for women entering treatment, to prevent their children from being placed in the over burdened foster care system, and to STOP THE CYCLE of addiction and abuse by keeping families together and promoting positive family relationships.

  • Project Abstract

The REAP Program provides education and job training for substance addicted mothers living at or below the poverty line. Each program participant receives an “Individual Educational/Vocational Plan” that is uniquely tailored to meet individual needs. This plan establishes goals and provides benchmarks to track progress, make adjustments, and celebrate achievements.

There are three levels of achievement to improve the likelihood of gainful employment for the women served. They are as follows: GED/High School Diploma; Vocational/Skills Training; and Job Coaching and Independent Living. Onsite GED classes are offered, and childcare is provided during classes. The vocational and skills training includes computer literacy classes, online certification, and finding sources of financial aid for training. Job coaching and independent living includes online job search training, accessing and applying for job training programs, resume building, interview coaching, proper on the job conduct, and how to create and live within a budget.

  • Target Population

The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center (SBARC) serves mothers, ages eighteen and older, who need residential treatment for substance addiction and other co-occuring mental health issues. These women face many other challenges including homelessness, HIV/AIDS status, backgrounds of abuse, childhood/adult trauma, criminal backgrounds, and lack of education and skills to achieve stability and permanency. They are referred to our Center from a variety of community providers, including Department of Corrections, Department of Children and Families, the Broward County Homeless Initiative, various social service organizations, as well as some self-referrals. The REAP Program benefits approximately 150 women annually.
